Setting the right audio levels for your live stream can be difficult, but Mike Russell, with Music Radio Creative shows how using tones can help.
Generally, you want to adjust your microphone audio level when talking to peak around -6db, which is a good place to start and won’t be too hot (distorted or peaking in the red on your audio meter.)
Mike uses Adobe Audition when using multiple music sources for his videos and he can create a quick test tone within the menu under Effects > Generate > Tones.
By creating a 1K reference tone and playing it against the various music sources he brings in, he can adjust each level to make sure they’re all at the exact level.
